Grass, Like Sapphic Hair

from Swan Songs Of The Coyote by June DeVille

/

about

First song composed for SSOTC. It still has this groovy pentatonic feeling that we rather left out otherwise - except on Dilettante, which was composed only a few days later.

On the minus side, we can't remember what the lyrics are really about. It seems they tell of a guy on a mountain - but what's with the foxes and snakes ??

Seriously...

Nonetheless, we like the song.

lyrics

Years of sorrow made me what I am
And what I feel the sun has made
With its ruthless stare it parched my skin
Parched my heart and sharpened my eye
Sitting on the grass high up a mount of solitude
I look upon the world I left
Birds comin' and goin', feeding on me
Foxes and snakes not far away

Oh ! Oh ! Boy ! What can I say !
Oh ! Mom ! You lost me
Oh ! Boy ! What can I say !
Oh ! Mom ! You lost me

The heat of summer kills me deep
Bores me deeper, yet keeps me green
No disease can touch me, I'm too proud
No word will annoy me, I'm much too poor
Years of sorrow made me what I am
And what I feel the sun has made
With its ruthless stare it parched my skin
Parched my heart and sharpened my eye

Fire ! Fire ! Fire ! Fire walk with me !
Fire ! Fire ! Fire ! Fire walk with me now !
