Ok. Definitely the most classic-rock sounding of SSOTC songs. An obvious choice for 1st track. We found the chorus' second vocal melody line right while recording the main line, and thought it sounded fantastic. That was about the same time we realised the debut guitar riff was quite similar to Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name" verse. Max was pissed that he got ripped off 25 years earlier. But no hard feelings, Richie. And we're still in deep love with Jon.
The lyrics are about the fact that everyone wants to be a famous actor or rockstar nowadays, instead of getting boring jobs like their parents. But come on, it is quite unlikely that you all get there at the same time. Sheer law of numbers. So wake up, open your eyes, happiness is at hand (*slap, ouch).

The old man sees me comin', hears me wailin'
His face grows sharp he tells me "No complaining"
"I've been around for many years, I've seen it all, I know it well"
"And you my boy are clearly wasting your time"
No way out
Life is now
Failed to see that
Now I'll wake up fast
For you
For you
I've no regrets and yet I don't feel all too well
Behind my back one's talking, forked whispers
But I don't care no I don't care the world's still turning round
And in a way I guess that's how things are
No way out
Life is now
Failed to see that
Now I'll wake up fast
For you
For you
For you
For you
I'll grasp your hand and take off for the night
Somehow I know that this will be our last trip
